Keep Wasps from Building Nests in Birdhouses

Long story short... do not clean a birdhouse while it is being inhabited by wasps - wait until fall or cooler weather when the wasps are not active. Definitely, do not spray the birdhouse with any chemicals.

Place a cork in the opening if wasps seem to be scouting an empty birdhouse.

And the best advice yet.... "rub a thin layer of bar soap on the inside surface of the roof." It will be too slippery for the wasps to attach their nest and the soap will deter them and other insects.
